Marrakech
The labyrinth where the past is still present
Marrakech's medina has changed little in structure since the 11th century. The souks, hammams, riads, and mosques form a living urban system that has absorbed centuries of Berber, Arab, Andalusian, and sub-Saharan influence without dissolving any of them.

🤝The greeting ritual
Greetings between men often involve handshakes followed by touching the heart. Take time with greetings — rushing them is considered rude. Enquire about family.
🌙Ramadan rhythms
During Ramadan, many restaurants close during the day. Evenings become social and celebratory. Iftar (breaking of fast at sunset) is a generous communal meal often shared with strangers.
💰The bargaining contract
In the souks, prices are not fixed. Bargaining is expected and is itself a social ritual — take time, be respectful, accept tea if offered. Walking away is a legitimate tactic.
